Ecommerce Website Design
An initial design concept and website structure created to give Ruby Watts a professional online presence and support product-led browsing.
Ruby Watts Ecommerce Project
An ecommerce project for Ruby Watts, moving from an early WordPress build to a stronger Shopify setup with design, DNS, email and ongoing technical support included.
Project Overview
Ruby Watts is an independent UK lighting boutique offering a curated collection of distinctive, design-led lighting for homes, interiors and trade customers.
I have worked with Ruby Watts for over 10 years, supporting the business through its ecommerce journey — from the initial website concept and WordPress development through to the later move to Shopify.
As the business grew, the original WordPress setup began to reach its limits, particularly around plugin reliability, security pressure, third-party integrations and the need for a more purpose-built ecommerce platform. The move to Shopify provided a stronger long-term fit, with a system designed specifically for product management, online orders and higher-volume ecommerce activity.
The project also included logo development for website and print use, hosting for the original site, DNS support, Google Workspace email setup and continued technical support throughout the transition.
The Brief
Ruby Watts needed a professional ecommerce website that could present a curated product range clearly, support online sales and reflect the design-led nature of the brand.
The original project began with website design and WordPress development, but as the business developed, the platform needed to become more reliable, easier to manage and better suited to ecommerce growth.
The brief evolved from building and supporting the original website into helping Ruby Watts move onto a stronger ecommerce platform, while also providing the technical support needed around hosting, DNS, email and the wider transition.
What I Delivered
An initial design concept and website structure created to give Ruby Watts a professional online presence and support product-led browsing.
The first ecommerce website was developed on WordPress, giving the business a flexible starting point for products, content and online sales.
As the business grew, support was provided for the move from WordPress to Shopify — a platform better suited to ecommerce, product management and higher-volume orders.
Logo development and brand assets were prepared for use across the website and print materials, helping maintain a consistent visual identity.
Technical support included DNS configuration and professional email setup through Google Workspace, helping keep the business running smoothly through the transition.
Hosting support was provided for the original website, alongside continued technical help, troubleshooting and support as the ecommerce setup evolved.

The website supports a design-led ecommerce experience, helping visitors browse lighting collections, explore products and move through the buying journey across desktop and mobile.

The Outcome
The move to Shopify gave Ruby Watts a more focused ecommerce platform, better suited to managing products, handling orders and supporting the needs of a growing online store.
The project helped the business move away from a more complex, plugin-dependent setup and towards a purpose-built ecommerce system with improved reliability, easier day-to-day management and a stronger foundation for future growth.
The Future
With Shopify now in place, Ruby Watts has a platform designed around ecommerce from the ground up, making it easier to manage products, support customers and continue developing the online store.
Continued support for the Shopify platform, helping the store evolve as products, content and customer needs develop.
Ongoing technical help with domain settings, DNS records and Google Workspace email to keep the business connected and running smoothly.
Support for page structure, product content, metadata and search visibility as the ecommerce site continues to grow.
Reliable help with website issues, platform changes and the technical details that often sit behind a successful ecommerce business.
